Ableton Live. It's the most straight-forward thing out there for getting the music out of your head. The near-instant gratification is unrivaled.
http://www.ableton.com/live

FL Studio is similar in some ways (and cheaper), but you'll find it's less intuitive. Much of the way it's laid out just seems illogical.

Another loop-based production environment worth checking out is Orion. It's also very affordable. I like it better than FL, but Live is still way better than both.

If you're going for a more traditional, timeline based DAW (like ProTools), Reaper is essentially free (and really good), though Sonar or Cubase would be better if you have the money.

But really tho, just save up and buy Live. It's the best.

FL Studio (Fruity loops) is the most reasonably priced software for music production out there. The XXL edition [producer edition + extra instruments and tools] is 299 and producer is 199 USA Dollars, NO TAX charges at all if you buy it online.

Also, you can get an ADDITIONAL 10% discount on the entire first order (including FL Studio and anything else you buy with it) if you use this promotional discount link for new customers:

https://support.image-line.com/jshop/shop.php?offer=Default&promo=BFHEHAH486

I had some friends use the same promotional deal to buy their FL Studios and some other plugins. Saved them over 50 dollars.

Good luck, have fun

Pro Tools is the Best. It is used by a lot of studios. The downside is that you have to use their proprietary digidesign interface or Mbox. Cubase is also very powerful. You can get the light version usually free when you buy an audio interface. The interfaces compatible with Cubase are substantially cheaper. I use Cubase with a Tascam US1604 interface ($399) it gives you 16 inputs in total, including midi and comes bundled with a free copy of Cubase LE. Other people have good success with Adobe Audition. I would recommend Pro Tools if you can afford it, if not go the Cubase route. It is widely used and is as powerful as Pro Tools. There are forums on the internet for Cubases users who will offer you tons of help learning it.

First, you should tap your tempo. Right click on the tempo, then click tap. Click the tap in tempo with your loop. Then open your loop in SliceX. Your loop should automatically plot itself out in the step sequencer. You can either place this pattern constantly in your playlist, if you're looking to mix it, or if you just want to hear it loop for yourself, click the loop button in the SliceX window (next to play and pause).

Have you considered looking into getting involved with a songwriting community? There are some online ones that might be worth the time and effort, and I'm sure they have a lot of information for you to review about how not to get your material stolen, how to market your material, and how to get yourself some exposure. I've linked you to one below.

Good luck, and I hope to hear some of your work someday!
